Floral Impressions
My journey into the wonderful world of flowers started young. I can remember being completely captivated by my Nana’s flowering vegetable gardens and the abundance of beauty that they offered throughout the seasons. Although the memories are faint, I can remember a time where the plants towered above me and I could wander my way through the lush vibrant maze like I was in my own secluded secret garden.
For my tenth birthday I asked for a garden. My Nana enthusiastically agreed and helped me to construct my first planting grounds complete with all the necessities: strawberries, tomatoes, cucumbers, watermelon, sunflowers, pansies and pumpkins, of course. Watching life take form from nurturing a tiny seedling in the ground amazed me back then and continues to create a sense of wonderment to this day.
I don’t think I realized the impression that these experiences had left on me until recently.
Fast forward to the spring of 2013. With a photography degree in tow, I set out to break the mold in print, designing a refashioned magazine with a first-of-its-kind hybrid fine art periodical. Enter Flutter Magazine. Flutter was dedicated to celebrating the joys in life through a curated collection of inspirations for living, traveling and entertaining. There was an authenticity to every ounce of the whimsical musings that were shared. Over the past seven years I’ve thoughtfully grown the magazine into an internationally regarded brand, inspiring like-minded friends around the world with heart-fluttering visual media, products, and hand-on experiences. It’s been a dream come true to work on.
The magazine became an outlet to explore a creative wish list of ideas brimming in my head that I was able to bring to life and share with my readers. An overarching ode to Mother Nature was at the heart of everything. Every piece of editorial was driven by the season’s offerings and my motto to ‘Live Florally.’ In the spring of 2017 I started co-hosting a series of bespoke creative retreats around the world, allowing readers the opportunity to experience a taste of the botanical lifestyle I was conveying in the magazine. The itineraries were very much inspired by visiting various floral-abundant regions to nurture the spirit of the flowers, the gardens and the serene cultures that surrounded them. From the wild untamed beauty of the Cotswolds, to the flowering French countryside, to the blooming rainbow of flora across the Netherlands in the spring, to the celebrated agricultural region of Stellenbosch in South Africa, to the stark simplicity of the Moroccan Desert – I have an enormous amount of gratitude for the people and the impressions that these travels have bestowed on me. They have kept me curious.
With a burning desire to slow down, focus on my growing family and my love of flowers, The Floral Pantry™ was born; A space where I could cultivate relationships with the flowering network of tastemakers I’d built over the years and share in all sorts of floral delight with like-minded enthusiasts near and far.
I take pride in bringing people together and that’s what I hope to do here. I hope to unite the art of dreaming and the act of doing with our unique Floristry Kit – connecting educators and enthusiasts with opportunities to nurture their space to design at home. I hope to build a pantry that’s packed with pretty for all of your budding inspirations. I hope to inspire you to #liveflorally one blossoming idea at time. And I hope that all the experiences I am able to offer leave a lasting impression on you.
As I’ve developed “my brand” over the years, I’ve really come to embrace what I call a laidback-luxe aesthetic. At the core it’s a friendly sophistication for a design-inspired community of creative minds. There’s an air of whimsy, a dash of romance, a touch of alfresco…really the perfect recipe of success for The Floral Pantry.
