#MyMothersFavouriteBooks

I was tagged by the lovely bookish_ian who has recently lost his mother Wendy, to share a stack of books that my Mum loves. For every stack posted, he will donate $1 to the Garvan Institue of Medical Research in honour of Wendy

These are books or authors that I know my Mum loves or that are inextricably linked with her in my mind
💫Jane Eyre ~ we both share a love of this book and I remember several childhood Sundays when we watched the 1943 black and white film with Orson Welles
💫The Count of Monte Cristo ~ was my bedtime book for MONTHS which she doggedly preserved with because she loved this adventure story too
💫Josephine Tey ~ The Daughter of Time is one of her favourite books and she recently started a reread of it. The story of Richard III also reminds me of Mum as we visited Leicester together and his grave in Leicester Cathedral
💫Susan Hill ~ I saw The Woman in Black at the theatre with her when I must have been about ten and I was absolutely terrified
💫Agatha Christie ~ The theme tunes of David Suchet’s Hercule Poirot and Joan Hickson’s Miss Marple will forever remind me of both of my parents. They still rewatch both series now
💫Elizabeth Gaskell ~ Her particular favourite is North and South, but we both went to see Gaskell’s Manchester home together one hot June day

I’m so sorry for your loss Ian and thank you for encouraging me to think about how grateful I am to my Mum for my love of books. If I’ve tagged you or not, please do join in with this beautiful bookish challenge💫

I had to pick these flowers from my garden early this morning as June has dialled up the heat here. Roses are continuing to flower across the garden but only a few Love-in-a-mist (Nigella damascena) remain and not long before I’ll see the last of the Sweet Peas.

I’ve included the wild Common Centaury (Centaurium erythraea) and Wild Carrots (Daucus carota) which love the hot weather. Two other native Mediterranean plants which I love in the garden are the Blue throatwort - although it’s purple 💜 - (Trachelium caeruleum) and the amazing Badassi 😉(Lotus dorycnium formerly Dorycnium pentaphyllum). The latter just grows and grows although I rarely water it (maybe once a month in the summer).

Also included are Hibiscus, Cornflowers, Scabiosa atropurpurea ‘Burgundy beau’ and ‘ Summer fruits’ xx

One from the beginning of the month, when it still felt like late summer. But now the equinox has passed and we are heading slowly but surely into autumn. Not quite at the tights and boots stage, but heading there!

Dahlias, cosmos and grasses all grown with love and care by Sally pickersflowers, nasturtiums and phlox from my own tiny container garden.
